Culpeper County Goes Bananas for QuickStart!

In November 2009, QCV held a QuickStart Recreational Workshop at the Culpeper Sport & Racquet Club. Two elementary teachers from the Culpeper Public Schools, Sharon Gregory (AG Richardson ES) and Chris Kennedy (Emerald Hill ES), participated. In early 2010, Sharon borrowed QCV's Loaner Kit and by July, AG Richardson Elementary became the first "official" QuickStart school in Culpeper County. In August 2010, QCV and USTA/Virginia conducted an "in-service" training session for all Culpeper PE teachers in the enormous Eastern View High School Gym and by the time the training session was over, the nine remaining schools had signed up to be QuickStart schools.

Culpeper schools are 100% USTA!!!

PE Coordinator Randi Richards-Lutz organzed the event and energized  the teachers who were ready to jump in, and included one teacher who had had four wisdom teeth pulled earlier in the week, another with a surgically repaired broken wrist and one with a very bad case of poison ivy. Now that's dedication!

Melissa Robinson, a tennis pro from Richmond, VA and mother of three QuickStart kids, led the training. Melissa and her husband Cris, also a tennis pro, in addition to everything else they do with tennis, teach in QuickStart after-school programs in the Richmond area. QCV Board members Pat Severson and Lynda and Roy Harrill provided "on-court" support.

At the conclusion of the training session, Sharon Gregory was presented with permanent equipment for her school thanks to USTA School Tennis, USTA/Virginia and a USTA Recreational Grant QCV received ealier this year.

Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Professional Tennis Association, four additional elementary schools and one middle school will be receiving QuickStart equipment in September.

WELCOME to the USTA QuickStart Family!!!
